Our Founders
The Ice Academy of Montreal was founded in 2014 when Marie-France Dubreuil, Patrice Lauzon, and Romain Haguenauer united their expertise to establish a new model for ice dance training.
Their collaboration grew from years of shared work, with Romain coaching Marie-France and Patrice, and from a common belief in a collaborative, holistic approach to excellence. From its inception, I.AM was built as an institution — principled, structured, and dedicated to developing athletes and coaches at the highest level of the sport.
Marie-France
Dubreuil

Marie-France Dubreuil is one of the most accomplished and influential figures in international ice dance — both as an elite athlete and as a leading coach.
As a competitor, she forged a storied career with Patrice Lauzon, capturing five Canadian national titles, silver medals at the World Championships in 2006 and 2007, multiple Grand Prix victories, and representing Canada at two Olympic Winter Games.
In recognition of her impact on the sport, Marie-France was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (Civil Division) by the Governor General of Canada — an honour bestowed for her role in developing elite ice dancers and shaping the sport both nationally and internationally.
In 2014, she co-founded the Ice Academy of Montreal (I.AM) with Patrice Lauzon and Romain Haguenauer, helping establish one of the world’s foremost training environments in ice dance. Today, her choreography expertise, competitive insight, and performance sensibility continue to influence champions and innovators alike.
Whether choreographing programmes, refining expression, or mentoring athletes toward peak competitive form, Marie-France’s contribution to the sport is both profound and enduring.
Patrice
Lauzon

Patrice Lauzon is recognized internationally as a leading authority in ice dance technique, structure, and rules interpretation.
At the Ice Academy of Montreal (I.AM), he is responsible for defining technical standards, ensuring regulatory precision, and guiding athletes and coaches through the evolving demands of elite competition. His work is characterized by clarity, efficiency, and a deep understanding of how technical choices translate into sustainable competitive success.
Patrice’s expertise has been acknowledged at the highest level of the sport. He is a recipient of the ISU Coach of the Year Award, the U.S. Figure Skating Coach of the Year Award, and the Meritorious Service Medal (Civil Division) from the Governor General of Canada — honours that reflect both his technical leadership and long-term contribution to figure skating.
Co-founding I.AM in 2014 with Marie-France Dubreuil and Romain Haguenauer, Patrice continues to play a central role in shaping an environment where precision, preparation, and understanding of the sport’s framework are fundamental to excellence.
Romain
Haguenauer

Romain Haguenauer is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in contemporary ice dance, combining exceptional coaching expertise with a distinctive choreographic voice — a rare dual capability at the highest level of the sport.
With extensive international experience spanning multiple competitive systems and generations, Romain has guided athletes to the very top of global ice dance. His work has been central to the development of numerous World and Olympic champions, contributing to one of the most successful coaching records in the sport’s modern history.
As a coach, Romain is known for his strategic clarity, long-term vision, and ability to build performance systems that endure across Olympic cycles. As a choreographer, his programmes are recognized for their intelligence, structure, and musical depth — crafted to serve both competitive demands and artistic integrity.
Co-founding the Ice Academy of Montreal (I.AM) in 2014 with Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon, Romain brought together international perspective, technical mastery, and creative leadership. His influence continues to shape I.AM’s identity as an institution where excellence is both engineered and expressed.

WELCOME TO I.AM
Ice Academy of Montreal
HOW WE DANCE
From its origins, I.AM has shaped a training environment that consistently produces success at the highest level of the sport, while allowing each athlete and coach to thrive as individuals. The Academy is defined by a culture of collaboration and a relentless pursuit of aesthetic refinement. Technique and performance are developed with equal rigour, within a framework that supports physical, artistic, and personal development. Creativity is encouraged, structure is precise, and ambition is guided by experience. Every detail matters — on the ice and beyond it.
Rooted in Montreal and shaped by the city’s creative spirit, I.AM has become an essential reference point in international ice dance. It is a place where careers are built with care, longevity is valued, and excellence is earned through process as much as performance.
At I.AM, success is not imposed. It is cultivated — thoughtfully, ethically, and sustainably — so that every skater can perform with confidence.
